Saussurea obvallata Perennial herb, 30 to 50 cm tall. Oblong to elliptic leaves; the upper bracteoid, yellow, membranous, embracing 4 to 5 capitula. Strong smell. Flowering: Aug and Sept. Cold hygrophiles, heliophiles, tolerant to poorness. South to southeast Tibet. Alpine scree. 3700 to 4800m. Southwest China. Qinghai. Himalayan countries. Used as snow-lotus in Tibetan medicine.
